Reader Reviews:Excellent character driven story (4/5 people found this helpful)The Dave Robichoux series just gets better and better. Burkes is a superb author, able to paint vivid pictures and create a landscape filled with real characters. This is detective storytelling with a difference. Do yourself a favour and buy some of this stuff - you won't be dissapointed.
Outstanding modern literature (5/5 people found this helpful)Burke's books are outstanding, particularly those about his alter ego Dave Robicheaux. Apart from being a 'good crime read' the characters are complex and realistic. Burke's description of Louisiana is evocative both as to the society, history and geography. At times the description of Robicheaux's feelings and personality is sublime. Burke/ Robicheaux are on the side of the good guys, but as flawed characters struggling with themselves as much as the hostile society in which they live. Marvellous. An absolute cliche (2/16 people found this helpful)I was given this book as a Christmas present. I'm already scheming how to exact my revenge. This book was rubbish - cliched and unbelievable with a plot that didn't make sense.
