Reader Reviews:A clear guide for intelligent people (5/5 people found this helpful)Author Philip Andrews gives you a way of coping with the huge number of options and features that Photoshop Elements contains. If you are new to digital photography, then this book will show you how to use the automatic image improvement features without any fuss. Your everyday photos will get a lot better -- a lot. Next you will find out how to use the more advanced features to get your pictures as good as they can be, and how to add special effects. The emphasis is on practical actions, and there is not much theory. Andrews' plain, clear writing gives you confidence to tackle advanced tasks, and he also goes into plenty of detail about getting good quality prints, stitching pictures into panoramas, and many other jobs that are not at all obvious when you are staring at the Elements screen. I would have liked some more guidance on improving portraits, especually on removing the unflattering and unreal results of flash photos. The book is lavishly illustrated, and is a pleasure to handle, with its heavyweight paper and excellent colour printing. If you are using Elements, you probably want just a single book, and this one would be a fine choice. Intro to Elements 3.0 (4/4 people found this helpful)Philip Andrews' book is written in simple terms by a teacher for pupils. I have used it and his earlier book for version 2.0 to teach Elements over the last three years, and found them excellent. Even better, when I had a query about the program not mentioned in the book, an e-mail direct to him got his reply in days. Can't recommend any better... Well presented, but full of errors (11/15 people found this helpful)Although it is well laid out, this book has not been proof read. NOT for dummies! (39/39 people found this helpful)I rarely make the effort to write up my comments, but I have to take issue with your contributor who suggests waiting for the Dummies book. These books are like a red rag to a bull for me - they only ever tell you what each button/menu item does, NOT how to use the product to achieve your goal. I have been using computers for 28 years, and a keen photographer for 40 years, but even then I found image processing distinctly non-intuitive. Dummies type books are useless for this, you absolutely need a book like this which explains how to transform your photos, NOT describe every damned option available - you can find that for yourself. I have this book for Elements 1, and that was excellent. Now I have upgraded to Elements 3, and find that again I will need some pointers (I had hoped I wouldn't, being a cheapskate). There are 2 real books to choose from: This one, which has a style more suitable for UK photographers, and Scott Kelby, which is also excellent, but the style is more suitable for US readers. (I have this one too, also for Elements 1) So if you're a Brit, have a digital camera and Elements 3 (and if you haven't, you should have, because it's excellent), then this is the book to go for. Believe me, I have studied them all. Cheapskates want to get the right book first time round! Seriously helpful (12/12 people found this helpful)The book is the most useful guide this duffer has ever bought! An excellent production with no gobble-de-gook! Used along with the online video tutorials great pictures can be produced at the touch of a button. The programme,of course, leaves the option to customize the editing for the more experienced. One thing to remember is that unless you have a fast processor, the videos take a very long time to download! I had to enlist the help of a 'fast' friend who downloaded onto CD and sent it to me. Perhaps later versions of the book could include a CD?
