Adobe Photoshop Elements 3 Classroom in a book has provided an invaluable tool to learning about this brilliant program. In fact I was really suprised when I realised it was published by Adobe themselves as in the past I haven't found their literature at all helpful.
Without going through the step by step lessons I would never be able to get as much out of Elements 3 as I am doing now. It's brilliant at teaching you how to use layers, masking, photostitching and loads of other really useful stuff.
My only criticism is that later in the book they leave out the final image so it's not easy to see if your final piece is correct.
However it far surpases itself with many WOW! factors, including making a flashing neon sign and de-wrinkling a very wrinkly woman.
My advice is buy it if you want to get the best out of Elements 3. I would also recommend the Scott Kilby books as they round out what you learn with Classroom in a book.
Worthwhile companion for Photoshop Elements 3.0 (91/93 people found this helpful)
Abode's Photoshop Elements 3.0 is usable straight out of the box in quick mode. In standard mode, the on screen tools for image correction and enhancement are also self explanatory. More advanced editing techniques however will require a little help.
Having looked at a number of different PSE3 helps books, I wound up settling on Adobe's PSE3: Classroom In a Book. Like others, it features step by step idiot proof tutorials in achieving particular effects and corrections. Unlike most of the other PSE3 books, this actually has colour photographs throughout - a big help when you are trying to understand what the text is driving at!
Each Lesson is composed of a number of small projects (the course materials are supplied on the CD at the back of the book), with each project taking up to a bite-sized half hour each.
My only gripe with the book is that it is written with Windows users only in mind. The layout and tools on PSE3 for Mac is exactly the same as Windows, with the exception of the Mac version using iPhoto for filing and organisation. None the less, the book is enlightening and useful no matter whether you use a PC or a Mac.
By the end of each lesson, you'll probably find your imagination fired in how to embellish your own photos and their presentation; whether to print out, put on a website or whatever.
Highly recommended!
