Reader Reviews:Wow! (5/5 people found this helpful)The selection of hymns in this volume is truly excellent. It includes old favourites but also has a huge variety of other hymns, many from Africa and America, including spirituals and hymns in African languages. The music is easy to read and to sing from, and is laid out clearly on the page, as is the text. The hymnal also includes texts which can be used liturgically. Everything in this volume - the hymns, liturgical texts, and introductory material - is presented from an African-American prespective. However, any congregation or group looking for inspiring music and new hymns, or a new slant on familiar ones, would I'm sure be delighted with this volume. It is also a fascinating book for anyone interested in academic study of the hymn and its development. An excellent buy. Huge amount of songs. (0/1 people found this helpful)There seems to be huge amount of songs in the book. That's great. Only one thing - and it maybe important to many readers - was missing: the notation for e.g guitar accompaniment. I mean those C, Am, G7, etc. markings above the staff (note lines).
