Just a brief note to reinforce what the previous reviewer said. If you want to get to grips with what's below the surface of Alice, you really can't do better than turn to Martin Gardner's Annotated Alice (Definitive version).
It's more informative, more authoritative, and a lot more fun!

I've only flicked through the pages visible on Amazon but in those I spotted much that was in fluent American and at least 1 incorrect 'fact'. There has to be a better option for English students. Probably Martin Gardener's Annotated Alice.
