5/5 stars

A beautiful object (15/15 people found this helpful)

This book is a beautiful thing. It contains a wide selection of illustrations by several renowned artists (including Leanordo da Vinci), and spans the centuries when natural history illustration was at its peak. Many different flora and fauna are depicted; most are real animals or plants, but a few are fantastical, and some are plain bizarre! The images are reproduced exquisitely - they are crisp and colourful - and the accompanying text is informative and provides context, complementing the pictures well.
I would recommend this book to anyone with an appreciation of the natural world or illustrative art, or indeed anyone who can appreciate the beauty of the world.
This is the kind of book you might pick up intending to have a quick skim through, and then find yourself still engrossed half an hour later.
