Reader Reviews:The Story behind the voice! (7/7 people found this helpful)When I bought this book it was on the strength of the masterful commentary that richie always supplies. It was a tremendous insight into his life and explains totally why he has so much love and respect for the game. Charts its way from his humble beginnings to captain of Australia. With names to drop in such as Bradman Harvey Dexter how could you fail to enjoy his reminissing of previous ashes battles. As well as the cricket I enjoyed finding out the man behind the voice. Would recommend the book whole heartedly What a marvellous delivery (0/0 people found this helpful)Richie's ability to translate his commentary skill and wit to paper is seamless. He writes with a great passion for the game and for the art of bowling, recalling may a great moment at the MCG and his younger touring days with his great friend Slasher Mackay. Really is a marvellous read, what a catch this book is for any cricket fan. His wit is dryer than the Australian bush. (1/1 people found this helpful)The man in his book writes that "life is 90%luck and 10% skill". This epitomises Richie's modesty and humility which he carries throughout the book. An insight into how Australian cricket was and is, how commentary is an art which Richie has clearly perfected and why so many of us regard him as one of the greats! Slasher Mackay would be proud to read about his old captain with whom he shared so many fine moments. A terrific read for all cricket fans (0/0 people found this helpful)Richie delivers a first class book for all types of reader. A true and deeply interesting tale of his youth and hard work which took him to the very pinnacle of Test match cricket. A book which will have every one talking about the values of practice and practice and hard work. A very good insight to the set up in Australia and the fight for professionalism. A marvellous effort all round (0/0 people found this helpful)Richie's combination of sporting and commentating memoirs is a super effort all round for anyone interested in cricket and/or the art of bowling the leg-cutter, the flipper or the googly. To better this as a cricketing autobiography would not be an impossible task, but pretty close to it. What a catch this book is !
