Reader Reviews:clive cussler who else (0/0 people found this helpful)The usual quality and good read by clive he never fails all the ingredients for a great read mystery love violence with a good story he grabs you from the first chapter and never lets go so give in settle down and cuddle up with the book and read it from cover to cover its gripping stuff all the way a great way to spend a rainy march day. DRIFT AWAY !! (0/0 people found this helpful)AFTER ARRIVING LATE INTO READING CLIVE CUSSLER I GUESS ABOUT A YEAR AGO . I HAVE MANAGED TO READ 10 OR MORE OF THE 'DIRK PITT' NOVELS.THIS ONE, (ARCTIC DRIFT) IS ONE OF THE BEST SO FAR. THOROUGHLY RECCOMEND IT TO ANYONE WHO READS CUSSLER. ONE COMPLAINT IS, WHY DOES HE(CUSSLER) HAVE TO PUT HIMSELF IN THE BOOKS AS DIFFERENT CHARACTERS, NOT NEEDED !ANYWAY, A CRACKING READ, ENJOY. !! Sandecker for President! (0/0 people found this helpful)I thought I'd get tired of Pitt and Giordino and their death defying James Bond adventures but I got through this book really quickly. As always its far fetched - Pitt in a race to find a rare element that will halt global warming - as ever he gets stuck in a submersible in the middle of the arctic. As ever he will question whether he's too old to fight evil business magnates. As ever Clive Cussler turns up in his own book wandering the globe for a couple of pages but long enough to save Pitt. Its predictable as well as far fetched but its a great read. My only criticism is that Dirk Jr and Summer, Pitt's two children start off as fairly major characters and then seem to get forgotten. Every time another Pitt novel comes out I wonder if its one too many and every time so far I find that I'm wrong. And surely CC won't give in until Sandecker is president! Big Mistake (1/1 people found this helpful)I have read and enjoyed Clive Cussler's books for years but this one is way, way off form, and really doesn't deserve to be in any bestseller list. That old Cussler magic doesn't really kick in until the very end, and for the first four hundred pages it was only loyalty that kept me from giving up and tossing the book in the bin. Laboured, overlong and overwrought, this would have been a much better book with a couple of hundred pages sliced out. Either Cussler's lost his touch, or his American publisher (Putnam's) is getting lazy. I suspect the latter, that his editors simply assume that a Cussler title will sell regardless of what's between the covers so why waste time giving it some polish, or offering their author some input. Instead they just trot him out to the bookshops as fast as they can, and with the minimum of supervision or editorial direction, relying on past titles to carry him along. Big mistake. As this sorry tale illustrates only too well. Mr Cussler, I believe you have been ill-served by your editorial team (if you have one, that is). Let's hope there'll be a return to form with Dirk Pitt's next adventure. Arctic Drift (0/0 people found this helpful)Good story line but getting a little stretched as the book went on. Good villain!
