Reader Reviews:

2/5 stars

Not great (1/1 people found this helpful)

I dont know whether the author is being truthful or not. All i can say is, from a readers point of view, the book isnt that good. It contains more facts and events that happened during the war and very little personal experience.
It was a hard book to get into but did contain a few things to keep you interested now and then (but not enough) and their are better books out there like 'fireforce' and the Peter Godwin books.

Not accurate (5/5 people found this helpful)

The author of this book unfortunately never served with the Selous Scouts as part of the Special Branch Detachment at any time but is living in a dream world. He was a member of the BSA Police but that is all.

4/5 stars

I wasnt there but my family was. (3/4 people found this helpful)

I read this book because my father was in the Rhodesian army, I have heard lots of various accounts with no way of linking them to a bigger picture.

I found the information quite disturbing and I think the 'story' is very 1 sided. That said however one rarely ever gets bare facts and I think this book has gone a long way to give as many of them as possible, even the harsh ones, even in the face of denial from those supposed to have been involved. I am not surprised at all in the behind the scenes involvement of the UK and USA as those 2 'world powers' cant seem to stop trying to play god with other countries.

All in all even if you do not agree with the author this is still a good read and a must for anyone interested in events in Rhodesia at the time.
