Reader Reviews:One of the very best in the series (0/0 people found this helpful)A beautifully drawn and written comic adventure, setting the scene for much of what was to come in this great series. This book is one of the more pleasing in everything it has: A enchanting adventure, a lovely pastoral setting, (actually urban: Ancient Paris known as Lutetia in Roman times, but it is very verdant) and lovely characterisation. I wish I was a kid again, waiting for this present to be handed to me. Or I suppose I could just re-read it: Yes, if your child is the type, this collection of books will become a valued possession. An entertaining early adventure. (6/6 people found this helpful)'Asterix and the Golden Sickle' is the second of 31 adventures published between 1961and 2001; This adventure is from 1962. Like the first book, 'Asterix the Gaul', some of the drawings are a little crude compared to the later stories, although this book is already more polished than the first book. Getafix the Druid breaks his Golden Sickle, essential for preparing the Magic Potion. Asterix and Obelix set out to Lutetia (Paris) to obtain another. Much fun is had at the expense of Parisian traffic congestion and the seedy gang controlling the black market in Golden Sickles. Obelix's cousin, Sickle maker: Metalurgix, is very amusing; His face is just like Obelix's, but on a little body. The new edition re-inks and re-colours the story. The drawings are sharper and the colours are brighter than my old (1975) copy.
