Reader Reviews:Bankrolling Basra (2/2 people found this helpful)The author is slightly arrogant - but much of what he says is spot on. The book throws a really good light on the difference between the British and American administration in Iraq. It also illuminates the weakness of the British government stance and attitude. Very well worth the read. At the sharp end (2/2 people found this helpful)An extraordinary story, I read this book at a single sitting. As well as being a fascinating tale of initiative, improvisation and general derring-do, it gives some real insights into why the post-invasion phase went so badly wrong. Baghdad is a long way from London or Washington, and Basra a long way from Baghdad. If you have ever been involved in a field operation far away from headquarters, this book is for you! If you are in a headquarters, it's for you too....
