Basic Tagalog for foreigners and Non-tagalogs (1/1 people found this helpful)

The title should read for Non-Filipino not non-taglogs but that is a minor point. I found this book to be too old fashioned in the phrases it uses which may have been acceptable 30 years ago but times have changed. Useful in teaching the basics of pronounciation and how to write grammatically correct philippino ect but for serious students wishing to learn real conversational taglog to speak and be understood in the Philippines or where filipino people live then I would consider this book as a very basic start. I would have loved to have had a book with in-depth converstations and hear HOW filipino is spoken in real life included with all the grammar and with explanations why it is said this or that way.

All-in-all a uselful source book but another course such as Pimsleaur or from Corason Castle is definately recommended here

Basic Tagalog (3/3 people found this helpful)

A very good book. Bit hard to get your head around to begin with. I had a little help because i live with a Pilippina. I would recomend this to anyone but you will need a two-way dictionary as well if you can.

Excellent learning tool. Pangit says it is cool. (5/5 people found this helpful)

If you buy one Tagolog book - buy this one. This is the most complete Tagalog book, especially if you want to learn the language enough to be understood.

Useful phrases, basic grammatic structure underemphasized (2/2 people found this helpful)

This book is useful for practicing useful phrases in Tagalog, but I think it underemphasizes basic introductory grammar somewhat.

Ang galing ang libro na ito! (4/4 people found this helpful)

If you ever want to learn Tagalog, then this book is probably the one you should be learning from. I'm a native Tagalog speaker myself, but I have used this book to brush up on my grammar. This book is pretty much straightforward and easy to understand. I'd recommend this book to anyone who's considering learning Tagalog.
