I knew Czech was a difficult language and this book helped with the basics of pronunciation and vocabulary.
I was was disappointed with the grammar which was often stated without explanation, leaving the reader with lots of tables to memorize but no mental "hooks" to attach them to. There was also little or no information to help a beginner use the language at a basic level. I confess I haven't finished it yet, but there is little or no help on sentence structure which is vital.
It's a useful book, but not good enough on it's own.
