This book contains a very intensive study of the Lithuanian language but should not be used by anyone who is just starting out.
It's quite an old book (1966) and was written when Lithuania was still part of the old Soviet Union. The authors are very eminent Lithuanian Scholars and the book is therefore very authoritive.
However there is no tape/CD to go with the book and the answers to the exercises in each chapter are not given.
Therefore one will need to use this book with a qualified Lithuanian tutor. One other thing the binding is not brilliant and my copy which I bought many years ago is now extremely tatty and falling apart.

OK, I agree with the preivous reviewer, that this is a book that someone familiar with language learning would benefit more from.
Having said that, it is a traditional language book: reading passage, vocabulary list and some grammar explanations and I suppose it can be a bit overwhelming for someone not used to this style.
But it is a mine of information and I managed to learn quite quickly. The only problem with it is the lack of recordings.

This book is really suitable for a student of languages. The phonetics and linguistics involved are far above the standard that an ordinary language learner needs. It is possible to learn, but. it is not aimed at a person needing to learn to travel, work or holiday.
