Fantastic Book - Helpful, Clear and Concise (0/0 people found this helpful)

I've had a webserver and fileserver up and running Ubuntu server for a fair while before I bought this book.

I thought that perhaps there was better options that what I had done with mine. I already know my way around Linux so I had an easier time with the book but it helps you all the way so people never using linux before can get a server going in no time at all.

Helps from the setup of the server (including quick discussions about the format of the hard drive, something I'd never considered) to using the command line to the security of the server and setting it up for multiple user and group use.

All in all a fantastic book for those looking to setup there own servers wether it's using Ubuntu or another linux at it helps with a multitude of points. Well worth the money.

I found this book slightly disappointing. The title itself is a slight contradiction, mixing "beginning" with "from novice to professional". The book comfortably covers novice to intermediate levels, but intentionally avoids some of more complex areas (e.g. LDAP), and overall it left me wanting more.

Having said that, the book gives a good introduction to a wide range of topics and is an easy read.
