Reader Reviews:Looking for answers ? (0/1 people found this helpful)I was looking for some answers when I read this book and I only found one point buried under the heading 'Jesus's last dialogues. The paraclete of John's Gospel' where the author tries to convince us that 'Holy Spirit' translated from the greek should really have been translated as 'Another Profit' i.e. Muhammad. I wasn't convinced but it certainly made me think and want to investigate further. The book was originally written in french and, although readable in English, some of the phrases seemed to have lost something in the translation Great Book - The seemingly impossible tackled. (6/6 people found this helpful)A significant book - an unemotional discussion of the authenticity of the Bible, and the Quran, and how data in each compares to science. Particularly, i admire the way that the author manages to critize without offending, as most critism is made through quoting extremely reputable and respected commentators. A definite 5*****. Buy it now! A significant book on using science to search for the truth (5/5 people found this helpful)Scientific fact is unquestionable. Dr Bucaille uses his vast knowledge of science to comprehend suggestions given in the Bible and the Qur'an. He meticulously discusses both these esteemed books, and analyses from a scientific perspective. For those with a vague interest in science, or for those looking for facts, this is a highly informative read which will answer many of your questions. Rejection of orientallist attacks on Islam (4/4 people found this helpful)Maurice Bucaille was the french surgeon who translated the scientific verses of the Qur'an and presented them as a challange to the secular world. Orientalist had always claimed that the Prophet Muhammad had simply copied large sections of the Bible or had imagined the Qur'an. The presence of knowledge so advanced should refute this, as any persons knowledge is always restricted by the sum of historical knowledge available to them. The sheer diversity of the topics covered in the Quran, e.g. human reproduction, cosmology, astronomy, geology, water cycle, plant reproduction took me by suprise the first time I read it. I have even researched the extent of knowledge at the time the Qur'an was written down, and frankly there can be no human explanation for the verses. It should be noted that the role of sperm and egg was not discovered until the 19th century. The first half of the book deals with the contradictions found in the bible. Bucaille has approached this objectively, though certain christian groups have set up a web site attacking him. Dr Gerald Schroeder, author of The Science of God, has to my mind just ignored many of the textual changes that have taken place in the Torah, in his attempt to harmonise the bible with science. The most obvious being, Moses could not have written the account of his death! A very good book for Muslims and Bible followers, though the latter may not share that view ! Some very interesting evidence (5/7 people found this helpful)I agree with much of Bucaille's research, but not all, but the book is still a very good read. Some of his research is some-what out dated as in recent years a study was undertaken by Sh. Abdul-Majid Azzindani. In the case of embryology Sh. Azzindai acquired the help of two of the most prominent embryologists Pro. Keith L. Moore and Prof. TVN Persaud (see their publications on Amazon). The research took about 3 years and the findings were more astonishing than mentioned in Bucaille's book. A video entiled "The Truth" or "This is the Truth" contains Sh. Azzindani's interviews with at least 16 scientists in various disciplines, including embryology which makes a non-sense of Campbell's refutation. Campbell's work is not scholarly and his methodology is poor and typical of certain missionary groups. Azzindani's research is not based on Bucaille's book, but takes similar subject matter much deeper: both scientfically and linguistically, and is also "independent" confirmation of some of Bucaille's findings. Maurice Bucaille is also respected scholar concerning Ancient Egypt and has won various awards and prizes eg. "Mummies of the Pharaohs : Modern Medical Investigations" and "Moses and Pharaoh: The Hebrews in Egypt". The last book contains a comparision of the Bible and Qur'an with secular knowledge. His results confirm that the Qur'an could not be based on the Bible or on secular knowledge of the time. Read these books, and check his reseach methodology.
