Reader Reviews:A unique approach for those who prefer a more natural garden (0/0 people found this helpful)The author is a botanist who has written other books on botany and associated wildlife but this one is unique in that he teaches gardeners how to produce in their own environment examples of our most beautiful wild flowers and trees. In order to keep the book within a reasonable length he considers, with the exception of the ferns, only dicotyledons. The entries are in order of the main plant families, and necessarily it is selective, given the sheer size of the plant world. But gardeners will find great pleasure merely in reading it, and if they decide to try even some of John Raven's suggestions they will, I am sure, be delighted with the result. In particular they will not only be able to enjoy the beauty of our heritage of wild plant life but in addition will find that the result will require far less attention, even in the main growing seasons, than a more conventional approach.
