There are far too few WebObjects books, so when I started on the difficult road to learning this highly rated software, I bought as many as I could find. This will be the one that remains on the book shelf.

The first 116 pages (out of 455) is a primer. If you need to know what is a server or a database or HTTP then this maybe of use to you. It also includes a section on OpenBase (a version is installed with WebObjects). I started here, not having used openbase on OS X before. The example (SiteDemo) which is used through the book is introduced in this chapter. If you are just reading then fine, you will find yourself jumping back and forth, but if you wish to follow through the demo then forget it. The book starts with good intentions and then goes down hill fast. A CD or URL with the demo to install would be useful (or have I just missed it).

In chapter 9 (page 130) Enterprise Objects Framwork (EOF) is introduced, which is very late in the day. This book seems to be aimed at newbies but the key interfaces for WebObjects when starting out, WebObjects Builder and Project Builder, are not mentioned in detail until page 216.

I have only tried to use parts of this book before moving to other sources of help including a better written WO4.5 book, but I have found it difficult to dip into and use as a reference on my learning journey.

All in all, to make sense, this is a book that needs hyperlinking and time to be read it in it's entirety before starting with WebObjects, which of course, we all do!
