Reader Reviews:Yes! Finally! A girl! (2/3 people found this helpful)As much as I loved Kidnapped, it always seemed to lack, well, three-dimensional female charcters. I found the politics - legal, gender, ethnicity, much more interesting than simply trecking over vast wastes, primarily because they involved people. The best bits in Kidnapped definitely involve landscape and plot, whereas the best bits of Catriona are the dialogue characterisation. Catriona gets unfairly sidelined by its teenage boy audience who aren't mature enough yet to understand a mature David Balfour. It wasn't an adventure story, though, and could have done with a few more incidents plot-wise. Its certainly less plot-driven anyway. Alot to live up to! (5/5 people found this helpful)I only recently got round to reading this thoroughly enjoyable book. Being named after the title character had stubbornly put me off reading it in my childhood, but upon recently realising that this was ridiculous I picked up one of the many copies that I own and started to read it - I couldn't put it down! If you loved Kidnapped or Treasure Island, you will really enjoy this. More adult and more politically focused story line. The romance may put younger male readers off a little! Enjoy ! Catriona As good as its prequel. (4/5 people found this helpful)Brilliant. It's as good as its prequel ,Kidnapped.
