Plot: Charlie bucket lives in a big but poor family in a tiny house at the edge of the town. Charlie's birthday is near and he gets a bar of chocolate which he only nibbles on so it lasts. When Charlie finds the golden ticket in a different chocolate bar, created by Willy Wonka, his life is about to change...
The author's comment about the book: Roald Dahl, the writer of this book, thought that Charlie and the Chocolate Factory one of the most complex books to write. His first draft included fifteen dreadful children. His nephew Nicholas read it and said it was terrible and tedious so Dahl then knew he definitely had to alter the book a lot.
Rating and Recommendation: I would rate this masterpiece 8/ 10 and I hope to keep it for ever; I would recommend it to Roald Dahl fans, 7 - 12 year olds in particular.

How easy was it to get stuck into this book?
Very easy, because as soon as you read the first page, you straight away knew that the book was going to be interesting and exciting.
Who are the main characters?
Mr Willy Wonka - a funny man who just adores chocolate!
Charlie Bucket-the hero
Augustus Gloop-a greedy boy
Veruca Salt-a girl who is spoiled by her parents
Violet Beauregard-a girl who chews gum all day long
Mike Teavee-a boy who does nothing but watch T.V
Who is it written for?
Whoever likes chocolate would read this book all day long, so basically the answer is that anyone can read the book!
What is the storyline?
Well, 5 golden tickets are being wrapped in "Wonka Whipple Scrumptious Fudgemallow Delight!" and whoever finds one of the golden tickets will be taken on a guided tour around Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. Fortunately Charlie did get a golden ticket along with the 4 other children. (See main characters).Strange things happened to those 4 other children but not to Charlie. At the end of the book, the factory gets handed over to Charlie for being such a good boy. What a miracle for Charlie! Aman

Our class giggled all the way through this story. We thought Mr Willy Wonka was silly and we enjoyed that. Grown ups can be so serious sometimes!

Charlie is a poor innocent boy who lives with his mum, dad, 2 grandmas and 2 granddads. One day his parents let him buy a chocolate bar for fifty pence, so he buys one. On the way he finds a £5 note and takes it. He gets a chocolate bar in the shop and finds something inside it. Read it to find out what happens next...
My favourite character is Charlie because he is the kindest person out of all the people who get to go to the chocolate factory.
The main characters are Veruca Salt, Augustus Glupe, Violet Burrigard, mike tevvie and Charlie Bucket. They all have special things about them except for Charlie.
The best part is when Augustus falls in the chocolate river.
Read this book if you're feeling sad or lonely, it might cheer you up a bit!

Story Summary: A poor boy wins a chance to visit a mysterious and magical chocolate factory along with four other children. Strange things happen to the children as they tour the factory and their bad behavior gets the better of them!
My Opinion: There was an old movie made of this book and I didn't like it as a kid so I didn't think I'd like the book. However, after reading "The Witches", I thought I should take a look at Charlie. It was actually pretty cool. It wasn't as good as "The Witches", but a different sort of fun. Roald Dahl has such a crazy imagination! So many strange and funny things happen in the book. I laughed a lot and I found the ideas very interesting. Imagine, for example, that all four of your grandparents slept in the same bedroom of your house and never left their beds. How funny!
What did I learn from the story?
Roald Dahl tries to teach us something about good and bad with the five children in this book. For example, Veruca Salt is very spoiled. I think we can all relate to knowing children who are spoiled and most of the time we either just don't like them or we are jealous of them. It is interesting for me to remember what it was like to be a child and to remember a child's perspective on what is good and bad. Again, I can't wait to share this book with my young son. I wonder what parts will make him laugh. I wonder what he will think of the characters.
This is a great book and well worth reading. Good fun!
