Reader Reviews:the best (0/0 people found this helpful)I live in france. This dictionary is a must have. There is so many ways to use a word in french this dictionary makes it easy and is user friendly.Wish i had it a year ago Collins Robert French Dictionary (0/0 people found this helpful)When I received the dictionary I was somewhat surprised as I hadn't realised when I made the order it was going to be so huge and heavy. I had hoped for something a bit more practical as I live in France and go to French classes every week. This dictionary is just too cumbersome and awkward to take along and also has very thin, easily damaged pages. On the plus side, it is an extremely good and comprehensive dictionary, ideal for users who are studying advanced french as it includes vocabulary not found in the usual tourist or school dictionaries and gives useful examples of words incorporated into phrases or short sentences. Big and bulky but brilliant! (1/2 people found this helpful)This book is aimed at the serious student of the French language at an intermediate / advanced level who really wants to improve their spoken and written French language skills. As I attend a weekly Advanced French conversation group and also visit France regularly I already have a number of books on French grammar and translation, therefore I did hesitate slightly before buying this huge tome. However I have absolutely no regrets about my purchase and would recommend this to anyone seriously seeking the most appropriate 'Bon Mot' for French conversation. This dictionary is surprisingly easy to use. The words themselves are printed in blue which means that they stand out on the page which speeds up the hunt significantly. This dictionary contains much more than just straightforward French / English translations; there are useful colloquialisms, idioms and sayings, conjugation guidelines and hints and tips for writing formal and informal letters and, for some words and phrases, even a guide as to whether they are acceptable in polite society! A bit heavy to carry around - but I believe there is also a very good pocket version! Perfect for study (2/2 people found this helpful)Perfect for A'Level and Degree study. It is easy to use and comprehensive. You can always find exactly what you are looking for including idioms. An absolute must for anyone taking French to a higher level.
