Reader Reviews:An absolute must for any wannabe film composer (5/6 people found this helpful)This book is very good for learning the ins and outs of the industry, such as how the composer collaborates with the director and producers etc. It is not a book for teaching you how to write music for films, however, it is very up to the minute and will teach you everything you need to know about the technical side fo film scoring. It was bought for me as a gift but I would definitely buy it if I'd known about it sooner. It's a brilliant book, for both beginners and people who are familiar with the ins and outs of film music. Everyone will learn something. Great for every aspect of applied music! (3/3 people found this helpful)This book has just been a joy to read. R.Davis describes the art of music to picture by not only describing the mechanics, aesthetics and business side of the business but also touching on the history of music to picture and how it is that we as musicians (and to an extent filmakers) have arrived the point we're at today. The interview section at the back of the book is just the icing on the cake! Highly reccomended! "The best book I have read in a long while" (3/5 people found this helpful)This book is absolutely fantastic. I am a young film-composer and this book has been a valuable commodity, to help me with the more difficult parts of film-composing eg. sycronisation etc. It is one of the few books aroung that tells you about the business side of composing. A must-buy book for any wannabe composer (17/19 people found this helpful)An excellent work delving deep into the heart of the film and television music industry. This book contains everything that the newcomer needs to know in order to have a fighting chance of getting anywhere in what is considered one of the world's most cut-throat businesses. There is also information pertinent to the professional composer or film buff - its use as a reference book should not be underestimated. Inspiration in the form of a Book (15/20 people found this helpful)This book is absolutly the best thing i have ever Seen or Read. It explains everything from the very first years of Music in a Motion Picture through to the Business aspect of score making. the Book teaches you other aspects of the Film, regarding all the people involved in the making of the final version of a Motion Picture, all thier repsective responsabilites and the way in which they all come together as a team. Included in this book are interviews with Film & TV composers, about how they started in the business, what they have done, accomplished and tips on what the aspiring composers should do. If anyone out there is intrested in becoming a Film/TV composer then this book is a must. Be-Aware tho that the Business aspect the book refers too is mainly based in Los Angeles, New York, Mainly Hollywood. The principles are the same whereever you are but there is a relationship with Hollywood and Film's as we all know that play's a major part in the business side of Composing, that aside this book has inspired me to fufill my dream of composing a score for a Motion Picture.
