Should be called 'Examples of using 120 French verbs' (0/0 people found this helpful)

I agree with the other reviewer about this book - when I received it, I realised what a mistake I'd made - the title is completely misleading, this book is not going to help someone brush up their French for holiday, a quick business trip, or anything similar. Having said that, it does a good job at giving examples of the double meanings of some French words (120 in total) that are commonly used in conversation. For example, Arrange/S'Arranger has 7 different uses: 1) To fix; 2) To work, or sort out; 3) To come to an agreement; 4) To suit; 5) To arrange; 6) To tidy up; 7) To alter, or improve. Don't underestimate Bailler (to yawn) either - it also means to be loose or baggy or gape. These things might just come up...hmm.
So really, this is going to appeal to someone who is using French regularly and still finds it hard going with some of the conversation and needs to really get to grips with the different meanings some verbs have. And if you're brushing up for holiday - try a Collins phrasebook maybe (I did - much more useful) and have a go at speaking in lots of different situations -what's the worst that can happen?

If you are looking for an introduction to speaking or improving your French, then look elsewhere! I feel that the title doesn't in any way represent the book's contents. To quote from the book's own Introduction:
"In this book, Monique has chosen over 120 French verbs ... and has prepared multiple examples illustrating their usage in the context of their different meanings".
And that's exactly what you get - nearly 250 pages of alphabetically arranged French verbs & example sentences!! So very much a reference book. Includes such gems as 4 example sentences for "Bailler" - to yawn. Yes, I needed that one.
