Reader Reviews:necessary for survival anywhere in Italy Outside of Rome (0/0 people found this helpful)I recently returned from Italy after reading this book and listening to the two language tapes. And I'm glad I did. The lessons were pertinent to everyday situations you'll encounter in Italy. How to order food in a restaurant. How to make hotel and travel reservations. How to carry on a basic conversation. What to do in an emergency. The book also contained lots of helpful advice on how to use the public telephone, buy parking tokens, make train reservations and use the bus system. These situations may sound mundane, but in Italy they are a lot more complicated than in the U.S. (Italy is a very beautiful, yet very unefficient country.) When we were in Rome, I found that 95% of all Italians spoke fluent English. They did not tolerate my attempts at speaking Italian. But when we traveled to Tuscany, Florence and the outlying Venetian Islands, this book was my survival guide. It helped me communicate in basic Italian. And people asked me where I learned to speak Italian. This book made my vacation even more fun because it enable me to interact with Italians and have fun speaking with them and carrying on conversations. It made it easy to learn Italian. I think that if I had remained there more than two weeks I probably would have learned even more Italian. I highly recommend this book. Buy it and take the book with you when you travel. It makes a great pocket reference guide CategoriesAmazon.co.uk places this book into the following categories:
