Incredibly entertaining read, it was hard to put this book down! The author maintains a good balance between being informative and sharing his personal experiences of visiting Yemen. Having read probably every book about the country (it's hard not to become addicted once you've visited this magical place), this has definitely got to be one of the more easily accessible novels. A great introduction to the wonderful, overwhelmingly friendly country that is Yemen.

I have practically read all travel books in regard to Yemen except for those written pre World War II. 'Cool for Qat' is the best yet as it portrays the Yemenis and Islam in a very good light. I didn't want the book to end and dearly wish that Peter Mortimer would visit other Muslim countries where he may see that they too and their inhabitants are more civilised than the West deliberately portrays them to be.
