I must have spent at least a year on this fabulous island - around 12 trips over time. Wonderful to finally read about the REAL people and the REAL food - and not the usual tourist gunk. I used to know Tim (Emma's partner) way back in the 70s; now they've finally sold up, I hope they'll still be returning - as will I!

This was a book bought in anticipation of a holiday in Corfu. It could not have done more to make me wish we were going tomorrow! It is a truly evocative piece, where you can 'see' every sight, 'smell' every smell and 'taste' every taste. The book is written as though explaining to friends every detail of a much loved landscape, the walks , the history and the local characters! I can't wait to try 'Marias' recipes for myself and wish we grew the pungent Corfiote oregano here. Peppered with local knowledge and phrases, this book helps you to understand a bit about the culture of this beautiful island. The book is only let down by it's size, I wanted to read more, and the rather disappointing ending, it drifted to a close rather than having a definate ending and I found it left me with unanswered questions, did they sell the house?!
