Very Patchy (1/2 people found this helpful)

This book is intended as "a primer on many of the factual elements in the book" (The Da Vinci Code). It is essentially a short encyclopedia on topics appearing in the Da Vinci Code. However the quality of the entries on these "factual elements" is highly variable. A prime example being the entries related to the Priory of Sion which fails to mention that the whole thing was an elaborate hoax conjured up my three bored frenchmen in the 50's and 60's. Other entries on subjects such as the Templars and Rosslyn Chapel are more reliable. The ground covered in this book has been much better covered in the various documentries produced by the BBC, Discovery Channel and National Geographic.

Informative but not entertaining (0/1 people found this helpful)

I can understand how this book may be a disappointment after reading the novel. Amazon has now given the option to 'Search Inside this book,' which was unavailable when I ordered it. Be warned that the information is displayed in alphabetical order, and the book should have been named the Da Vinci Encyclopedia or Dictionary. Great if you have a particular subject you want to know more about, but plain boring to read from cover to cover...

Do yourself a favour (11/19 people found this helpful)

This book is pretty basic. If you want real background on the issues raised in The Da Vinci Code, you should do what I did and buy yourself a copy of THE ROUGH GUIDE TO THE DA VINCI CODE. Do yourself a favour.
