This is an excellent book. Easy to understand, well paced and quite comprehensive.

Ignore the offputting cheesy sounding title; In this book David Mead takes you from having never touched a guitar through to playing many pleasing exercises in just a couple of months. Everything is presented in plain English and at a comfortable pace, exactly as it should be.
The book treats you like a beginner, but not as an idiot. It acknowledges that you probably know very little about playing a guitar, but never makes you feel stupid about your lack of ability. The more complex aspects of initial learning (eg, barre chords, correct fingerstyle, alternate picking etc) are not ignored or swept aside, but are embraced instead to lay solid foundations.
Highly recommended for beginners - ie, those whom the book is aimed squarely at. Intermediates and perhaps even experts may find a little new material here, but probably not much.
