Reader Reviews:Good for beginners (1/2 people found this helpful)This book is very good for beginning wxwidgets, the first two chapters are great, but the rest is just a copy of the docs that can be found online. Missing elemetary information and messy (3/4 people found this helpful)I have just read the two first chapters of this book and appendices A,B and C.
Go multi-platform easily with this book! (5/8 people found this helpful)Finally it is here - the book that teaches you how trivial it is to develop software for multiple platforms with wxWidgets! I have been using wxWidgets for more than 5 years, so I admit - there was not very much that I did not already know. Still I am very happy with the book, because it is a good reference to have beside me while coding. However, the greatest potential of this book is to attract even more developers to this wonderful library. You will be amazed to learn that it is not a bit harder to develop for all major platforms than to just target one of them, so why wait? Agree, but, don't (8/13 people found this helpful)I'm sure this WILL be a wonderful book. But it hasn't been published yet so I simply don't know. Which is why it surprises me to see a review of it including the statement that the reviewer's copy has been munched by his dog and he's going to order a second copy ;) Damned fine book (3/16 people found this helpful)If you want to write cross platform software with an attractive widget set, you have the choice of Qt (which Win32 users need to pay for currently), gtk or wxWidgets. Given the length of time wx has been around, it suprises me how little there has been written about it. This book changes it. It's just packed full of really useful information and if you're happy with C++, using wx will be almost second nature in it's appeal and ease of use. Unfortunately (and this is very cliched!), my puppy decided to chomp my copy, but that doesn't matter. This book is so good, I've just ordered a second copy.
