Reader Reviews:The only Cubase SX book you will ever need (2/2 people found this helpful)I have read this book several times and, if you love Cubase SX, you will love SX Complete. It is a very easy read that somehow manages to present an incredible amount of factual information without being stuffy or overly technical. I am a Cubase lecturer at our local sound engineering college and I still seem to learn something from it every time I open it. It is also librally sprinkled with creative and time saving hints and tips that I have found to be invaluable. The chapter on latency is the most complete discussion of this topic that I have ever seen and, along with the chapter 'Understanding Audio Objects' is probably worth the price of admission alone. I also have Marc Coopers other book 'Making Music with Steinberg Nuendo' and although, it is well written and informative, SX Complete is even better. SX complete has a more easy going style that makes it a pleasure to read. My only criticism is that the section on surround sound is too short. I wish there were more examples of what can be achieved with the SX surround mixer and how to do it practically. Apart from that minor criticism, I have really enjoyed SX Complete and find myself returning to it for referrence purposes continuosly. Highly recommended to anyone wanting to use Cubase SX (2/2 people found this helpful)A few days ago I received my copy of the book Cubase SX Complete written by Marc Cooper and published by Auxbuss Publications. Before I received the book I had 70% or so of the Cubase SX Operations Manual. I have been very impressed with the quality of the manual. It is an easy read, very well structured and thoroughly cross referenced. The same can be said of Cubase SX Complete but the book is quite a different beast that does what it sets out to do extremely well. In short the Operations Manual describes what Cubase SX can do. Cubase SX Complete describes how to use it. Those two perspectives are very different. The Operations Manual focuses on "The zoom operations available are xxxxx and operation A accomplishes this and operation B accomplishes this". The book focuses on "Most people will probably prefer to do A in this way", "I strongly recommend that you take the time to do B because it will save you a lot of time later on" and "Here is a list of the most useful xxx commands". Cubase SX Complete can be read in 20% of the time it takes to read the Operations Manual and is highly recommended to anyone wanting to use Cubase SX as comprehensively and efficiently as possible. The language is down-to-business and even humorous. It reminds me of the articles in Computer Music Magazine that are often written with a good sense of humour. The book is not a DAW beginners' guide. But if you are used to using DAW software then Cubase SX Complete offers to be your friendly even-more-expert-than-yourself guide and teach you the exact things that you need to use the product to it's full potential. The best Cubase SX book (0/1 people found this helpful)It is well laid out with very little padding (unlike some of the others) and I find it easy to find the information that I am looking for. The book is sprinkled with practical hints and tips and the writing style is light but informative. There are excellent sections on latency and understanding audio objects which I feel are worth the price of admission alone. Marcs Cooper also wrote 'Making Music with Steinbergs Nuendo' (which I also own) and I think that his Nuendo background gives him an edge over the other Cubase SX authors who obviously come from a Cubase background. I find that some of the other Cubase SX books are not as accurate as SX complete especially in their explanations of audio objects.
