Having lived in the Czech Republic for some months I felt it was time I made a serious effort to the learn the language. After approaching a friend who happened to be a language student for tuition she settled upon this book as a teaching aid. It's unique approach to using colours to represent the gender of particular words (unlike English, all Czech words have a gender) is very helpful. It's method of building upon what the student has already been taught and its generally well planned structure make it an interesting learning experience. There are also audio tapes and a workbook available.
However, this is NOT a "phrase" book or "guide". It is a genuine learning tool designed to teach the language from the roots up. It is not to be taken lightly and requires a lot of effort from the student (I know believe me!). I wouldn't recommend it as a "self teaching" book either, but as an aid along with tutorial assistance.
