Reader Reviews:

5/5 stars

It works, unlike many others. (2/2 people found this helpful)

The research part of the book is interesting but slightly flawed in that the test groups are often too small to be scientifically valid but I still give it 5 stars. Why? because it works and that is what us pain sufferers need.

The exercise prescriptions they give make a big difference if done daily.

I've read 10's of books on the subject and had every alternative treatment going and drugs and surgery.

This book is the best out of the bunch as far as I'm concerned.

An excellent resource which I found empowering. (0/0 people found this helpful)

Normally I don't write reviews but I was astonished to read the only review given. Having injured my back over a year ago and found chiropractic rather unhelpful the survey in the book of what helps was greatly empowering. I gave up the chiropractor and set out to gradually and slowly build up a set of stretching exercises that helped me. Combined with some aerobic exercising I was able to return to my physically demanding sport of sailing within three months of buying the book.

Before that I had endured 5 months of regular re-injury at the hands of my chiropractor. I have used this exercise programme daily now for the last year and have the problem very much under control with no flare-ups in the last year.

Not a good adaption of a 15 year old US book. (3/4 people found this helpful)

Despite the "Daily Telegraph" branding this book is based largely on American research and writing from the 1980's. Little is done to adapt it to a British audience in 1999. Few web sites are listed. What there is on modern surgical techniques is added as an afterthought in a six page appendix so there is not much discussion of such things as keyhole or laser treatments. There is a good section on exercises but basically this is a lazy adaption of what was a good book in the USA 15 years ago.
