Reader Reviews:Breathtaking tale of avarice, treachery and tragedy (5/6 people found this helpful)One of those history books that makes you wonder why anyone writes fiction. Prebble brings alive the charachters and as in "Culloden" and "Glencoe" does not spare any of them. Another similarity with his other work on Scottish History is that it is scrupulously fair in respect of attempts by other Scots to blame the English for everything that ever happened to them. It would be improved by some better Maps and diagrams and perhaps some pictures of the protaganists. Nevertheless its an excellent and illuminating read.
