Reader Reviews:WOW (0/0 people found this helpful)This is easily the best Herecy book in a while and a large step up from Fulgram. The other reveiws are right the ending seems lacking, hopfuly this book will have a sequal as there are far more unanswered questions then anything else Stagnant (0/0 people found this helpful)As an avid book reader and a great fan of the HH series, I bought this book fully expecting to have it finished within a couple of days. Instead it took me a staggering 3 months to finish. The reason being it was an utter bore from the start to close to the end. The story never really took off, with far too much hinted at and nothing really happening. The only time I felt truly gripped by the book was in the 4th and final part, which ended so abruptly that it left me annoyed with myself for trudging through the rest of the rather dull story.
Interesting approach (0/0 people found this helpful)Breaks from form in that it has nothing really to do with the events portrayed in the previous books; however a refreshing take on things. The book is, i would assume, a scene-setter for a plot line that is yet to be explored as certain fissures have emerged that would clearly have implications for the events of the heresy. It must be said though that the previous instalment, Fulgrum - for me - was far too drawn out and at times tedious, so this seemed a welcome return to the formula of enigmatic good guys defeating inner-demons and battling evil beasts or heritics with the odds stacked against them and life and death decisions taken every instant. Furthermore, i enjoyed the camaraderie that is created between the warriors, which seemed lacking in Fulgrum.
Not really Heresy (0/0 people found this helpful)Having read the other Heresy books, DoA is completely different. I read the brief Amazon `Synopsis' (above), it states at the end "When news of Horus' treachery reaches Caliban, the loyalties of this proud and mysterious Legion are tested to the limit, with tragic consequences." yet The Horus Heresy is not mentioned at all and news doesn't reach Caliban anyway!
Poor (1/1 people found this helpful)Compared to the rest of the HH series this is a vey disapointing effort. It had great potential and was interesting in that it showed an earlier and slightly different age of the Imperium but ultimately the book disapointed.
