Should be a lot better - wake up macromedia! (0/0 people found this helpful)

Just like RichardAngela, I found this book frustrating from the start. Instructions are incomplete or plain confusing. Eg on p11, it tells me to "choose Right from the Alignment drop-down list" without telling me where that list is. It turns out to be accessible by clicking a spanner icon in a tool bar, but I shouldn't have to work that out for myself: it just erodes my confidence in the whole book, and when I'm on page 11 with 240 still to go, I really didn't want that! This is described as training from the source, ie, direct from macromedia but compare it with Adobe's 'classroom in a book' series and it's nowhere close.

Draining from the source (1/1 people found this helpful)

This is a very frustrating book. It is poorly organised with information on setting up the tutorials incomplete and buried in different chapters and discussion of optional elements like SSIs and PDFs coming before core elements like Templates.

As the previous reviewer says the CD does not work properly.

Good book - poor CD (2/2 people found this helpful)

I found the book very useful. However I had problems with the CD, it's designed to be used from lesson 1 to lesson 14 in order, building as you go along. I want to use a book like this to dip into when I get to a problem. I bought the book to find out more about what you can do in Dreamweaver with Templates for a Contribute user - lots as it happens, and it's very well explained - however this means lessons 1-6 don't concern me but I still have to copy 7 lots of files.

Also once you have copied the files there are some missing or wrongly named or in the wrong folders.

I contacted the publishers - they know about it, their staff have experienced the same problem and they are working on a solution.

I'm surprised Macromedia Press don't apply higher review standards.
