Great Reference Material (0/0 people found this helpful)

Fills in the info gaps that years of SAN development has thrown at us. Effectively cobbles togther end-to-end SAN building.
I've only used this book as a cross-reference, but if it had been made avalable to me before I started putting in SAN's it would have ben extremely useful.

Clear concise introduction to SAN (0/1 people found this helpful)

As a non technical employee in an IT services company I found this book an easy read. IT staff who borrowed the book were also pleased with it.

2/5 stars

One of the most diffcult to read books I've ever encountered (2/2 people found this helpful)

As a Sun UNIX SA who is new to SAN architecture, I was hoping this book would cement the understanding I already had of FC-AL, Fabric, zoning and SAN topology in general. I've been working with EMC Symmetrix for the last 3 months and know my way around it pretty well as well as a good understanding of Sun StorEdge products such as A5000. This book is cram packed with technical information and is totally vendor independent, however, it totally lacks structure. It talks about Arbitrated Loop in one sentence and then Fabric in the next such that the reader finds it very difficult to follow a thread. Acronyms are fired at you left, right and centre very early on in the book - much of which I think is unneccessary for an initial basic understanding. It's one of those books that you're forever flicking back through previous pages to remind yourself. I'm just under half way through reading this book and can recall very little of what I've read - very frustrating. Those who have given this book 5 stars are most likely SAN specialists who probably didn't need to read it in the first place.

Excellent Introduction to Fibre Channel and SANs (0/0 people found this helpful)

This superb book is an excellent introduction to Fibre Channel and SANs. I would and commonly do recommend this book to anyone designing, implementing or supporting a SAN.

The explainations are concise, clear and comprehensive. At a recent international SAN conference held internally by my company Tom Clarks book had been read by and was recommended by all the princple SAN specialists in our company.

Excellent concept guide to SAN's switch's & access hubs (0/0 people found this helpful)

Extremely usefull guide explaining concepts and terms relating to SAN technology. It's only flaw was lack of scenario based design information. Overall excellent book providing some light in the misty word of hype & SAN technology. Very good background reading prior to jumping into white papers.
