Day To Day Warfare (2/2 people found this helpful)

Based on his diaries the author was finally able to publish his wartime memories towards the end of his life. The raw honesty and factual recounting of his experiences make compelling reading, adding a first hand account of the war as seen by a soldier on the ground. The sheer acceptance of the continual shelling and loss of life of his fellow soldiers leaves one with a sense of realisation of what these brave men went through. An excellent personal account.

Devils own luck (11/13 people found this helpful)

An excellent account and continuation of what happened to the men that captured Pegasus Bridge, also refreshing to read something from a British soldier about the front line battles as this kind of book seems to be swamped by americans, just lets you know the Brits had it just as bad, if your sick of hearing about americans seemingly winning the war on their own then read this.

1944/5 from an infantrynam's point of view (5/6 people found this helpful)

Outstanding account of the fight from the early hours of D-Day to Germany from an on-the-ground perspective.

An insight into what such close quarters fighting must have been like and a hint of the real heroism that existed.

A must-read if you are going to visit the Normandy battlefields.
