Reader Reviews:Truly enlightening (1/1 people found this helpful)I did not know much about Disraeli, and after reading this fantastic book, I still don't. However, what I do know is this - Ian St John has produced the finest 282 pages of literature I have ever had the honor of reading. His use of adverbs were... exquisite, and his use of the semi-colon in the later chapters was truly inspiring. This book is not just for the History buffs, an elite few of which I am unfortunately not part of, but also for anyone who appreciates a real masterpiece of penmanship. I have dedicated a whole shelf of my library to this book - hardbacks, paperbacks, first editions and even a small mural to the great Dr St John himself. I will end in saying this: "To understand Dr St John, we need to take seriously the intensity of his ambition." Good day, scholars! The Most Useful Disraeli Source Available (2/2 people found this helpful)Being a fan of Disraeli and having read many books about the great man I felt I knew all I could about him. But what Dr St John has done with this book is to suprise me. His book should be the text on which all study of Disraeli is based. He writes with fluency, interest and a genuine passion for the subject. The most useful Disraeli source available and, bar Gioberti's "Primato" the best book I have ever read. Fantastic Study Guide (4/4 people found this helpful)This fabulous foray into the works of Benjamin Disraeli is a thoughtful, evocative account of the life of Disraeli as well as providing a competent analysis of Victorian politics. Not only being a riveting read, this is book is a brilliant study guide for those who are undertaking A-Level history, giving first hand evidence which can be wonderfully important for independent investigations. Dr St John has written a gem of a book that is an enthralling read as well as an excellent companion for history courses at any level.
