Reader Reviews:

5/5 stars

Excellent Book! (2/2 people found this helpful)

I must declare an interest in this review because I am a distant relative of the subject of the book. It has always distressed me how Thomas Robinson was treated by historians, each generation getting further and further away from what I knew through family connections.

I therefore settled down to read this book with great trepidation and was pleasantly surprised because it has not only got its facts right (and they are all beautifully referenced to sources) but the whole tone of the book is correct too.

I hope that as many people as possible will read it because the story it tells deserves to be widely known.

About time too! (3/3 people found this helpful)

I bought this book because I frequently visit Wrest Park
and wanted to know more about the person who built it -
there does not seem to be anything else about him.

I enjoyed it thoroughly and the chapter about his time in
Ireland was particularly fascinating. All the history books
do not explain why Peel went aginst his own policies to arrest
O'Donnell, but this book makes it clear. How marvellous to
find a book which has finally got to the truth!
