Reader Reviews:Heartbreaking, compelling, awful, (0/0 people found this helpful)This book is a must. I have read this one and i am in the middle of the second one ' The Lost Boy.' I was a bit wary of reading it at first, as i couldnt understand how any mother could do that to one of her children and not the others. I was in tears while reading it, but at the same time i couldnt put it down, i had to finish it. It is a remarkable story and i recomend it to everyone. Traumatising (0/0 people found this helpful)This was one of the most heartbreaking books I have ever read. I had to read it in one session, because I needed to know who he managed to get away from this awful extistence. It is wonderfully written, but completely harrowing to think that some people actually live like this. Just don't make the mistake I made, buy the follow up at the same time so you don't spend weeks worrying about him! This book will open your eyes and mind. It opens the mind to the reality of child abuse whither fact or hard to believe. I wait with anticipation to read the follow up books. It certainly opens the eyes of many people who live in the luxury of ignorace! the most amazing books i have ever read (0/0 people found this helpful)i made every one of my friends read it and they all came back with he same reaction : 5 stars nd incredibly written. Dave is indeed a survivor! (0/0 people found this helpful)So many children encounter abuses such as Mr. Pelzer's. I read his first two books in less than one day. I work in foster care services and am a strong advocate for children. People can help children in need of our care; however, you must report abuse. Be the abuse emotional or physical, it all affects our children. Children who encounter these abuses may indeed be scarred for life. My thanks to Dave for being so brave in telling his story. By seminars, Dave also tells his story in person. Most abused children do not get a chance to tell their story. I certainly hope that it helps to open up our eyes and watch out for our children.
