twelve wonder stories from a master storyteller (2/2 people found this helpful)

Edward hays has been writing unusual bookson spirituality, stroy and prayer for many years.
When I last heard of this unusual Catholic Priest he had 'retired' to be a prison chaplain in Kansas. That just about figures.
The Ethiopian Tattoo Shop mentioned in the title is in Jerusalem, a place of dark and fascinating mystery.. Ed tells us that he has been visiting the Coptic monks near the church of the holy Sepulchre and has noticed that they have Christian Symbols tattooed all over their upper bodies.
The book opens with Ed stumbling upon the shop where the tatting is done.
The owner asks Ed if he would like a tattoo and rather than say "Yes" straight away Ed deflects the question with another. " Does it hurt?"
"No " is the confident answer .
"Why not?"
" Because I use the ancient method of story telling as I work and those who are being tattooed as so fascinated by the stories they feel no pain.
Would you like to hear one of the stories"
So begins a series of twelve stories from mixed religious traditions. Orthodox doctrine of all the main religious are implicitly challenged by the stories and some are outstanding mirrors to the bigotry and anger in many religious people.
The stories are very different and can be opening for the soul to grow into fresh experiences of joy and expectation. The final story of the rainbow on judgement day , has profoundly affected people that I have told it to on four continents. It also is worth the price of the book. Read it and allow it to act as a 'paint stripper' to your soul - or good.
I love this book.
