Recommended. Thorough, weighty and relevent. Refreshing in the midst of much fearful secularist and religious bullying about tolerance. I do think this book encourages dialogue of a more assertive nature. Enough appeasement or do we want what is offered? For what it covers it is very good. Scriptural Prophecy is left un-touched but this is done well by others with feet of iron and clay.

Bat Ye'or's study into the (new) understanding between European policy makers and Arab politicians is an astonishing account of the cowardice and fear shown by the elites of Europe.
I see Ye'or's work as important as that of the American philosopher Hannah Arendt's in her thoroughly study of the twentieth centurys totalitarianism.
Two outstanding scholars, females, and both Jewish. And both of them have, in their through work with the last hundred years sinister ideologies, demasked the mechanisms behind those who hold totalitarian ideas.

I thought that the book was well researched and should be read by anyone interested in the effect that globalisation is having on neighbouring counties that do not embrace democracy. Despite years of trying Europe has tried and failed to to integrate immigrants into our societies because it has tried to construct a multicultural society in which immigrants embrace western values. It has allowed large sections of immigrants to hold onto values and concepts that the west would see as undesirable in a civilised democracy. The American model of integration has been far more successful in achieving this. The book is a timely warning that European leaders must look at new ways to integrate immigrants into our societies so that whey work for the common good and that they should be ever watchful to hold onto and not be fooled into giving away our hard won freedoms.

"Eurabia" is a monumental scholarly work, thoroughly researched and referenced. Unfortunately, this quality makes it very difficult and often tedious reading. The book would benefit from a thorough compendium enabling impatient readers as I to quickly grasp the contents and the message without having to wrestle through the full body.
The messages in the book are (too) often repeated.
Bat Ye'Or believes that there exists a complot within the European Union (EU) to lead Europe into "dhimmitude" (subservience) to Islam. She proves this with references to numerous EU texts and the European-Arab Dialog (EAD) organisation. This complot has also opened the European gates wide to Muslim immigrants which now number about 20 million in Europe, from practically zero in 1960.
I believe that there probably exists such a complot and that there certainly is a strong pro-Arab lobby in the EU and European governments, France being in the lead, for whatever shortsighted political and economic reasons. It is a major cause of the prevailing anti-American and anti-Israeli sentiments in EU political circles. But I doubt very much about the eventual success of such a plot. You cannot fool all Europeans all the time! We are getting fed up with secretive undemocratic ways of decision making in the EU bureaucracy. The EU constitution project was rejected in Holland and even in France itself. Muslim immigrants refuse to adapt and accept European ways and are increasingly rejected themselves. Multiculturalism has failed and is disintegrating. Since the immigrants have homelands, Morocco and Turkey, to which they return each summer for vacation, they can be encouraged to remain there where their allegiance is. Christian Europe is not lost yet, it's just asleep, still living in the post-war 60-year dreamstate of almost general peace in Europe. We will realise that we owe this happy peace, the longest in history since the Pax Romana, to America. Not to France nor Germany, who always were the among the worst warmongers in Europe. We will understand again that the Jews were at the cradle of Christianity, not Islam. We will again recognise which enormous contributions Jewish scientists, artists and politicians have made to European civilisation, not the Arabs nor the Turks, our traditional archenemies. Where is the Arab Rembrandt? Where is the Turkish Einstein? Where is the Muslim Father Damien? We did not need the Arabs to teach us Greek science or Roman history. Latin civilisation never died in Italy, and the Latin and Greek traditions were kept alive in the Church through the Dark Ages in Western Europe, and up to the Fall of Constantinople in Greece. We did not need the Arabs to build our cathedrals or to teach us painting like Giotto and Rubens.
I am much more optimistic than Bat Ye'or that Europe will come to its senses before it is too late. A dhimmi status will never be acceptable. The alternative is a general European civil war which will make the Yugoslavian split-up look like kindergarten play.

So, this is how 1,500 years of western civilization comes to an end? And what of the millions of decent, upstanding, cultured peoples of Europe who gave their lives for the survival of their nations?: the millions who were bombed and burned to death, torn to shreds by shrapnel; the soldiers at Flanders, the Somme, Verdun who choked to death on poison gas; the women, elderly, and children who were incinerated in Hamburg and Dresden; and the untold millions of broken European bodies that froze and starved to death in Russia, Poland, Germany.... And these now dead European souls have been replaced by the dirty, bearded swarms of Islamist vermin that now drift around the cities of Europe.
This is how it is to end?
The Europeans today are not worthy of the greatness and courage of their ancestors, who would NEVER have allowed this calumnity to happen. This treason, this perversion of nature and biology, came about because the so-called postmodern Eurocrats turned their backs on their history and culture.
So, the high art of the Renaissance and the sublime philisophy of the Enlightenment will one day be replaced by the cultural-wasteland of Arabia and the Dark Ages-era thinking of the Koran? The untold millions of culture-bearing souls died to eventually have their inheritance handed over to a Martian-like foreign species? And the genius of a Bach, a Beethoven, a Shakespeare, a Rousseau, a Rembrandt, etc.... will be replaced by the illiterate, child-raping fraud Mohammed? And the courageous leadership of a Churchill, a Bismarck, a Napoleon, a Cromwell, etc..... will be supplanted by the cave-dwelling coward Osama?
This is all the result of the perverted sickness that now afflicts the so-called postmodern world: liberal multi-culturalism, the murderer of our civilization.
