Reader Reviews:An excellent book (2/2 people found this helpful)What I was looking for was a book that took me through all the features of Cubase VST and showed me how to use the program. I found this book excellent- much easier to use than the Cubase manuals. I also found the review of PC hardware requirements very useful - this may be slightly out of date (as is Cubase VST) but it is still very important to understand what is needed to run the program and where more resources need to be added. Almost useful but out of date... (7/7 people found this helpful)Well, it's a good introduction. There isn't much that you can't figure out on your own though: I found myself already knowing most of what was included, but as an alternative to Steinberg's own "Getting into the details" pdf, it's not bad. but.... It's stupidly out of date. The book is based soley on ver 5/5.1, which unfotunately is nothing like the new version SX. Most of the VSTi's have been updated since it's launch, and more new ones need to be included (such as the PPG 2.v, Pro52, B4 , Waldorf Attack, etc). The average computer user now seems to be onto 80Gb HD, 1Gb RAM and 1.5+Ghz processors...so why does the book still refer to 550Mhz Pentiums..... Still, if you still have ver 5 or 5.1, and can't be bothered to get your hands dirty with the interface, then get this book. Good starting point (5/5 people found this helpful)This book is a great starting point for new users who have never used software sequencers before and want to get to grips with the basic functions and controls of Cubase VST 5. Those familiar with computers may be dissapointed to find that there is a chapter explaining how their computer works and reviews of soundcards that are a couple of years old. Excellent (10/10 people found this helpful)This is a very full and detailed guide to Cubase VST with lots of excellent screenshots which clarify how to use the details of the program. It is packed full of tips and is written in a style which is not only for the technically-minded, it's for musicians too! The text leaves no space for ambiguity and there are things in there for beginners and advanced users alike. A handy reference to have in the studio or at home to help remind you of the main aspects of the program. If you need a book on Cubase VST, this is the one to buy. Great value for money. Very Lacking (3/3 people found this helpful)...this book is a let down. It is really aimed at people who are new to computers. In comparison to other 'bible' or 'quickstart' books that introduce beginners to a software package as well as advanced users to more complex features, this book falls short by a long way. The shelves of local bookstores buckle under the weight of PhotoShop, Quark, and Illustrator books, but for Cubase VST there seems no serious alternative to this lightweight offering...
