Reader Reviews:much maligned (0/1 people found this helpful)Working class boy, ex ships steward becomes deputy PM. More than can be said for most of us. Easy to take the mick, especially for upper class tory twits, ( hope Prezza spat in their soup on the Cunard liners). JP never flagged in his fight to better the lot of the working class, always a reformist, never a revolutionary, a man of some principle and one of the last, if not the last, great characters of Parliment as the whole place is taken over by the grey suits and lawyers of 'new' labour and the old Eton rich boys, ex army officers and estate agents of the conservatives. Left himself wide open to crititism during the last couple of years in power but read the biography to get the measure of a real man, hope the author updates the book to take in the last years of Blairism. Forget the tabloid scandals and his syntax, man deserves a lot of gratitude and respect especially from working people who he unceasingly fought for over the past half century. From somebody who was in the Merchant Navy same time as Prezza, and often did not agree with his politics ( I was well to the left) all I can say is - many thanks, your heart was always in the right place.
