Reader Reviews:READ THE BOOK (0/0 people found this helpful)This is my favourite book ever, and David-Clement Davies is my favourite author because of it. I totally love the book, which I have read numerous times. I won't go into the praising details because that would take too long...JUST READ THE BOOK. It is amazing! (And read its sequel, 'The Sight'.) A legend is born! (4/4 people found this helpful)"Firebringer" is a fantasy telling the tale of a herd of deer, with their internal politics, power struggles, loves and hates, conflicts and triumphs. The outcast-turned hero is a prominent theme, along with many others. The term 'instant classic' is over-used, but here is a truly worthy candidate for that honorific. The author takes elements of the Arthurian legend, the myth of Prometheus, the story of Moses, and the life of Christ, and blends them into a can't-put-it-down adventure/quest novel that is appropriate for children from 9 to 109. David Clement-Davies also takes Mary Shelley's thesis from 'Frankenstein' and boldly restates it: science and reason, without love and soul, become dangerous. Is this also an allegory of World War II, as some people feel is 'The Lord of the Rings'? That case could be made as well. Some will say this is a copy or knock-off of 'Watership Down'. I see it as an upgrade, even though I loved 'Watership Down'. But, even without all of the possible deeper meaning to it, this book is a well-crafted emotional roller-coaster with well-written characters. It remembers what Hollywood often forgets - a good story doesn't have to have a completely happy ending. When the movie is made (Bet on it!), I hope that it isn't softened, and instead retains the tragic beauty of this wonderful work. If you understand the etymology of the term 'masterpiece' you will recognize this book as fitting into that category. I hope that this is just the beginning of a long line of books from David Clement-Davies. Best animal story I have ever read so far (1/1 people found this helpful)This story was absolutely brilliant. I found it incredibly hard to put it down and as far as maintaining the interest of its readers goes this far outweighs Watership Down. The way in which Clement-Davies presents a world through the eyes of both the hunters and the hunted makes us see life through a new perspective which again, makes this an enthralling read. I can't wait until The Sight comes out as a paperback! Very good. (1/1 people found this helpful)This kept me going for five hours through a mammoth traffic jam in the middle of Bolton and its surrounding areas. The prophecy, as well as the rest of the book was very well written, I spent a lot of the time flicking backwards and re-reading it, then smiling because another part of the cryptic prediction had become clear to me. This is a brilliant book, and deserves to be read my many. (4/4 people found this helpful)Fire Bringer is a book about deer in the islands of Scotia. There is a prophecy amoung deer saying that one day a fawn will be born with the mark of an oak leaf on his head. Rannoch was born the night his father was murdered. He must escape to survive. His mother ,Eloin, and other deer with their new born deer flee from their heard, that is hungry for power, to the mountains. They are hunted by stags with sharpened horns. One day Rannoch must return to do what he was born to do, to conquer the force that drove him away This is an amazing book. I Thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I think many people should read it.
