Reader Reviews:Contested Italy (4/5 people found this helpful)This is a highly engaging book. Although the attempt to re-create an Italian national identity over the last 200 years may have led mostly to diappointment and nearly to total failure after the Fascist deviation, Professor Duggan does allow that today's inhabitants are more 'Italian' than they were, however uncertain and contested the idea of 'Italy' remains.
