Reader Reviews:Good start to say hello in French. (52/59 people found this helpful)The book (+CD) is good for people, who learn by memorising, scared of the word grammar, loving words like fun. Good points: Every French sentence is translated, and it is shown how to pronounce the words. Some dialogs from the book are on CD, the others are easy to figure out how to pronounce (but it would be better to have all the words and dialogs on CD). Bad points: The grammar is not explained in the book. When you are good in memorising you will be perhaps able to use the phrases from the book, but it will not help you to learn how to build new sentences since the grammar seems to be not a big issue in this book. Lots of text, but more about the "take it easy" subject then about learning French. Sentences like: "Et lui, qui est-ce?" Are translated as: "And who is he?" Without telling you, why you use here lui, where before actually you learned that "he" in French is "Il". I got confuse because of the "no requirement" for grammar in this book. You will learn not much, but for the price it is sufficient what you get. Pure genius help (29/59 people found this helpful)You are a school boy or a tourist in a class for french the guy infront of you is talking in some foreign launguage to you (oh wait, he is). So you go home and think I will go on the internet and get a book, you then find a list of books and see the usual learn a language in 20 minutes stuff which you know is complete rubbish, but then you see a title from people that actually know something by getting the experts, the bundled CD-rom the little triangle headed gye on the cover holding it, you have finally found a good french book. So you use all your will to press the buy button wondering if your parents are gonna walk in and go through the checkout. You have to wait two days for it to come so what little wait compared to some and you open it up each night for a week you read a chapter and you have some fun with the little cartoons. You then go onto the computer and practice speech. A few days go by and you have french again you go up to the french teacher and ask him in french what will you be doing today he i startled by the end of the lesson all your friends are beginning to think you are some sort of geek in disguise. Okay so that may not happen but none the less this is a great book. Every bit of it is simple you cant really get lost in it because even though they are teaching you a foreign language it is actually put into plain english and the CD supplies all the help you need for speech cause lets face it you aren't gonna be writing everything when you get there you wanna be speaking with the waiter in french not looking stupid as he gets a dusty english menu which only gets used every other decade. So I draw to a conclusion it is great pure simple genius Similar ProductsFrench Phrases for Dummies (For Dummies (Lifestyles Paperback)) French for Dummies (For Dummies) French Verbs for Dummies (For Dummies) 1001 Most Useful French Words (Beginners' Guides) (Beginners' Guides) CategoriesAmazon.co.uk places this book into the following categories:
