Reader Reviews:Bless Him! How cute?! (0/0 people found this helpful)This was a beautiful book to read. Admittedly I mainly brought it because the front covers picture grabbed me, but I enjoyed it completely. Some bits do tend to drone on, especially towards the middle of the book. But hang in there because it gets better and the fights that have to be done to rescue a puppy makes you realise that the world does still have some nice people in it. A brilliant book, and well worth every penny. The pictures in the middle are one of the best bits! But there are some very funny bits in there too. Read the bit about the ready meals! A book about war with some bits about a puppy in it (3/3 people found this helpful)I wanted to love this book but it's a bit of a mongrel. I read a synopsis of it in the daily papers and, being a dog-lover, thought I must get it immediately. Turns out the best bits were summarised in the paper! I thought there would be more written about the dog in the book and there wasn't really that much. It is very much a book about warfare (not to dismiss that story in itself) with odd bits about the puppy as and when. To tell the truth I kinda skip-read most of it. The story is a good one but the book wasn't quite what I was expecting. Buy it anyway. You'll probably enjoy it. Stunning photographic cover and lovely story... (6/6 people found this helpful)The cover of this book is visually appealing, the photograph is just eye candy. I liked looking at the photographs of the marines and of Lava, it brought the story to life. However, being a lover of dogs and stories about dogs, I found this book really hard to get into because it was written by a soldier during a conflict and I felt I was reading about life of a soldier during war rather than a puppy being saved by marines. I read this book for a few chapters and found I just couldn't get into it so I gave up.... life is too short to battle on with books that just aren't your type. Who saves who (7/7 people found this helpful)A wonderfull book, truly got under my skin. It tells how war is, how hardened marines are actually human and how a puppy can become such a focus to free minds from the horrors of the war that surrounds them and others. International borders and relations, US Goverment, Marine Corps, Insurgents and just bad luck all play a part in the story. But in the end all I thought was, did the Marine save the puppy, or did the puppy save the Marine. You have got to read it.
Marines/ Soldiers & Dogs- What a Great Combination!! (6/8 people found this helpful)A heartfelt adaptation of a puppy called Lava, doing only what puppies can do!! Fostered in a foreign country by marines who were deployed to fight for the US. A moving and informative tale of love and dedication given in a time of war.I will definitely read this book again.Highly recommended!
