Reader Reviews:By far my favourite vegetarian cook book, (8/8 people found this helpful)I spent a lot of time down at Schumacher College, where Julia was the chef, and all of the meals that I ate during my year there came from her book. The food is easy to prepare, looks fantastic at the end and tastes simply wonderful. I really don't have any sort of a complaint or improvement for the recipes!
feast for a few or a crowd (10/10 people found this helpful)This is my favourite vegetairan cookbook. Given to me by one of my closest friends a few years a go while I was sharing a huge house with a variety of students from all over, I happily cooked for everyone using these recipes. The quantities are specified for groups small or large, and there are some good recipes beyond the typical 'vegetarian lasagne/ quiche/ chilli/ pasta' (although these are good ones too). HIghly Recommended. Healthy body, soul and mind! (2/2 people found this helpful)A truly fantastic cookery book! Julia has managed to compile a host of wonderful recipes, rich in both vitamins and flavour. In terms of usability, the book treats the user with great respect, in so much as it is very instructive to the first time user, but at the same time assumes that the user has a certain amount of common sense and judgement, to add their own final touches to each recipe. I too have been lucky enough to experience a selection of the recipes first hand at Schumacher College and am delighted to have attained a copy of the secret formula! I have now worked my way through a good part of the soups, salads and main courses, and am presently trying to resist temptation to delve into the biscuits and desserts sections! Best vegetarian recipies! (2/2 people found this helpful)I've been lucky enough to eat at Schumacher College many times and I am delighted that Julia has at last written down the recipies so we can all learn them! I'll be diving straight in with Satish's North Indian meal (and this from someone who doesn't normally like Indian food much) and the particularly yummy cheese, cashew and walnut roast. This is one of those cookbooks where the recipies really do deserve to get into the repertoire of everday cooking . . . so much to learn here!
