Reader Reviews:

Propaganda pretending to be real science (0/3 people found this helpful)

Science. Whatever this book is, it certainly is not scientific. It is edited by a man who put his reputation on the line to promote a conjecture.

It abandons all scientific rigour and practice to present a distorted version of the planets climate system.

We understand virtually nothing of the way the planets climate works, yet this book gives predictions about future climate modelled on a very limited understanding of how the planet works and with best guess climate modelling software.

Given that far more complex software can not even predict the weather next week, I find that approach rather unsatisfactory. The error bars exceed the predicted temperature ranges for example.

If you want to read a proper scientific text, then buy PRINCIPLES OF PALEOCLIMATOLOGY by Thomas M Cronin and make up your own mind rather than buy this.

Excellent summary of scientific evidence for global warming (10/12 people found this helpful)

This book presents the scientific evidence for global warming and man's involvement in it. While much of the science is explained in lay terms, some of the data tables assume a scientific background. It explains the variability of the climate models and the future global lifestyle assumptions used to predict the future. The author is chairman of the Science committee of UN International Panel on Climate Change, hardly a "Junk Scientist" as a previous review stated.

However, it makes little attempt to squash some of the wilder opposing arguments still being bandied around by some sceptics.
(I allow that there are still some areas for discussion).

Beware, junk scientist! (10/57 people found this helpful)

You should only read this book if you are also going to read a book such as The Satanic Gases in conjunction with it because, otherwise, you will only be getting one (slightly evangelical) side of the argument.

It is also interesting to note that this book views global warming as a set in STONE fact, rather than the speciously reasoned argument that hard core environmentalists use to halt the progress of the human race.

5/5 stars

the best guide to climate change. (29/33 people found this helpful)

This is a balanced and comprehensive account of the science behind climate change, including discussions of its causes, and different models for predicting future temperature increases. It is probably the best guide to global warming.
